This design replaced the rapier as the weapon of choice among Europeans by the end of the 17th century. The rapier was an effective weapon, but placed its owner at a disadvantage when wielded in the narrow, crowded streets and alleys of European towns. A short, lighter sword was needed, and this design was developed. This quality reproduction measures 38 1/4" overall and features a 31 1/4" blade of 1055 carbon steel. The simple and functional hilt offers two shells with finger loops and light, strong knuckle guard. This item includes an attractive leather scabbard with a richly decorated throat and chape.
