The massive two-handed great sword was an important weapon on the late medieval battlefield. Often linked to accounts where soldiers armed with great swords broke through lines of pikemen, this weapon was highly effective in the hands of soldiers of large stature and physical strength. This reproduction measures 55 1/4" overall in length, and features a 39 7/8" blade of 1055 carbon steel. The blade includes parrying hooks and leather wrapped ricasso to allow the wielder to shorten the grip and use the sword as a polearm to repel cavalry. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather to afford a full two handed grip. The heavy steel pommel helps to balance the sword and can serve as an effective bludgeon in its own right. This is a tremendous item to add to any historical collection. Cold Steel, 88WGS.
