This blue (Ao in Japanese) Tokugawa Ieyasu Shogun Forged Steel sword will be the focal point of your Japanese decor.

previously spelled Iyeyasu
January 31, 1543 – June 1, 1616
Tokugawa Ieyasu was the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan which ruled from the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. Ieyasu seized power in 1600, received appointment as shogun in 1603, abdicated from office in 1605, but remained in power until his death in 1616.

The blade's hada is in Mokume (woodburl) style. A hada is the visible design of the grain of the sword steel. It is a result of the way the sword was folded during forging.

The Seppas (spacers) are made of blackened steel. Additionally, the Tsuba (guard) is made of Blackened Steel. The top side of the Tsuba depicts Tokugawa Ieyasu's portrait and is raised on parts of the Tsuba. The underside shows a peaceful garden house.




Not to be outdone, the sword smith has detailed the Kashira (pommel cap) just as much as the Tsuba.


The tsuka (handle) features genuine Same (Rayskin). Two bamboo pegs (Mekugi) secure the full tang in place. A blue cotton Ito has been wrapped over the Same (Ray skin) in a traditional Samurai shogun style. There are two gold plated dragon Menukis (ornaments) on each side of the tsuka.
Saya (Scabbard) Material: Wood, painted blue, finished off with lacquer.

Full Tang Carbon Steel Forged Blade : 29 inches
Approximate Tsuka (Handle) by itself: 13 1/5 inches
