Uesugi Kenshin
1530 - 1578
Uesugi Kenshin was a daimyo who ruled Echigo province in the Sengoku Period of Japan.
He was one of the many powerful lords of the Sengoku period. He is famed for his prowess on the battlefield, the legendary rivalry with Takeda Shingen (Click for his sword here)Takeda Shingen, his military expertise, strategy and his belief in the god of war - Bishamonten. In fact, many of his followers and others believed him to be the avatar of Bishamonten, and called Kenshin god of war.

The blade's hada is in Mokume (woodburl) style. A hada is the visible design of the grain of the sword steel. It is a result of the way the sword was folded during forging.
Some call this damascus.
The tskua (handle) is Same (Rayskin) and cloth in a Tsumami Maki wrapping style. The tskua is extra long. A samurai sword Tsuka length is usually 10 inches, this one is 13 1/2 inches long. The overall length is 44 inches. Outside the saya, the tskua and blade are 43" inches in length. The blade length by itself is 29.5 inches.
The saya (scabbard) is wood, painted black and speckled. It has black cotton wrapped around the kurikata.
The saya has 6 black sageo knots around the kurikata (knob on scabbard).
The end of the tsuka (handle) is the Kashira (buttcap). It is constructed of alloy.
Blade: Created with handcraft, heated with clay applied, with a knife stem, can knocked-down, sharp edge.
